Existence: Chapter Five

The system of education is using a feedback loop based upon demonstrative testing.  The value of knowledge is expressed by the application of skills in a need-based setting.  People get to think and do, rather than being limited to one or the other.

The value is in people’s interactive time, sharing themes and skills as a means of building community.  The Existence game grid is based on permaculture as the major theme to provide food and fiber, with the skill sets being things like greenhouse construction, gardening, harvesting, canning and cooking.  This skill set may be necessary for species survival.  Each grid of 64 is embedded in a larger grid of 64 as a unit box, where the over-structure includes many skills and expanded theme sets.  There are smaller scales, where skills and themes are focused on specifics tasks that are to be included within the workshop.

The game will morph based on know-how of the participants become players in the game.  Each person has roles that they fill in order to serve the community and foster stewardship of the land.  These grid systems are constructs to use time and energy efficiently while constructing POD modules.

The current system is breaking down; new model learning system development is not occurring.  Life is stuck in the current paradigm of education through large central government.  When empire falls, governance should be scaled back down into bioregions. Local intentional communities will be loosely connected by exchange through the community energy bank.  Localities are otherwise on their own for survival system and method development.  The game is a way of judging progress toward establishing value within a framework of meeting harmonic community needs.

Existence brings people together to share experience and expertise is a way that develops both personal and group relationships.  It is a grand experiment in learning how to bring about a diverse culture that has a group mind toward the structural support mechanisms.  Everybody has a contribution to make that comes from their own heart – but the self-service economic system makes us all wary of each other’s motives.  We have been burnt so many times, that we are gun-shy about opening up yet another time.

Different people have ideas about the way things should work, but none of us influence the way things actually do work.  We tend to expand beyond our capacity and become overwhelmed by the volume.  The idea of a school of thought is one that slips past the grip of most people.  It is difficult to see the word school as anything but the public school system – which talks at people rather than encouraging learning with them.   Basics always need to be reinforced, but the specifics of each situation differ, such that the one size fits all approach is valid for only one size.

The groups that we form have fractal relationship based on different scales and the operating conditions vary as a function of scale.  Each additional person added to the mix brings another dimension into the task – control is a function of uniformity of thought, just not possible with people of diverse backgrounds.

Existence is a trial and error science experiment to learn how people effectively work together in groups.  It approaches life as a lake that continually fills and empties based on personal energy and directive of purpose.  The people who forcefully wish to take a certain direction will move in that direction and expect the group mind to flow with them.

Getting people on the same page means taking time and energy to build the orientation from many points of view and share them with others.  Buy-in requires satisfying individual concerns – mostly about individual pieces of the big picture.  For the sum of the whole to become larger than the individual components requires ego to take a back seat while the consensus forms.  The game can model many different approaches and provide the feedback by a means that we can universally understand from all points of view.

The idea of the game is very simple – learn the skills that can ensure continued human existence.  In order to remain positive, we will not describe the problem in detail at this time, but many other authors have addressed the challenge of the current order.

As eco-communities develop, they will need people who have the skill sets to take care of the mechanism, the knowledge to know what to do, and the spirit to bring people together to get it done.  Where is the fourth type of person, who embodies each of these components, the hands, head and heart respectively?  The missing leader is the person who can bridge these people types.

In the rural agriculture vane, explore the early theory and practice of the 4-H clubs.  Mechanisms like the grange are in place from yesterday can provide clues to the ability to do tomorrow.  As people look for ways to tap in to community, having a clue about the necessities involves putting personal energy into spiritual, skill and theme development.  If we can reformat archaic institutions into dynamic new organizations that serve the individual people rather than just the group leaders, existence can work.

Existence provides exposure to permaculture and the ideas of eco-community.  Natural resource conservation is a primary key to good stewardship.  Looking at the processes of material and energy flow in community will help us focus on meeting group needs while respecting individual sovereignty.  How people come together will be a function of how much they are willing to work to survive – retraining in skills that our forbearers knew, but aren’t taught today.

How do we develop the game as a school?  The Ouspensky/ Gurdjieff 'Fourth Way' school of thought has already developed a grouping system based on chemistry harmonics – existence is a branch off of their philosophy superimposed on game and group theories.  A chemist looking for new ways of interpersonal interaction composes the picture – the current system is shredding rapidly.  Formal education will be passed on between individuals as public schools continue to whither on the vine.
