Building Groups

news: Building Groups

Our goal is to develop community by blending inspiration with perspiration, to create a mechanism for common support. We the people need to shift gears to mold a fractal of the current system. Try to look at the picture from a different perspective – local community rather than national governance.

Let's say that you have a major project that needs to get done and you do not have the resources to accomplish the task. What can be done is to set the intention of accomplishing the task and to define the goals in a way that allows resources to assemble. By creating a framework of this vision on paper, the karma can be stripped of dogma and the realization can formulate in time and space.

Begin by taking stock of the task at hand. What is the goal of the task and what scale is that goal ultimately supposed to function? In other words – how many people will this task require and what are they physically supposed to do. Does the task require special skills or additional training? What tools are necessary and are they available? What services can be provided in-house and what materials are to be acquired?

Define the role that you personally play in the picture, and what it would take for somebody else to replace you in that role. If that was your only assistance, which tasks would you prioritize? Logistically, it is easier to start small and grow large rather than starting large. Individuals each bring skills to share that can be traded for labor time. We slowly develop a community of people that are comfortable working together with the leadership functions dispersed amongst the group. Each person has their main role, but is also a member of the supporting cast.

Develop a script for the movie of the task you set group intention for. Create the pictures of what each person envisions and find ways to bridge the gaps, to get there from here. The cast of characters fill the roles in that they blend together to form an entourage rather than a cluster of individuals. People enjoy doing what they know how to do – building common threads help weave our community fabric.

The network of mutual support should work for groups on a variety of different scales. Imagine a pyramid turned upside down with most of the people on the wide base exposed to the energy of the radiant sun. Our goal as leaders is to provide physical and technical support services to enable the logistics of accomplishment. Function would precede form, such that each task once defined can take up a life of it's own.

Each task requires a number of people to accomplish different goals that are related to the desired outcome. What works for one location may not work in another site. The specific circumstance varies with each application. Developing a redundancy of approach simulated the means that nature accomplished tasks. Slowly but surely a more workable system will emerge from the ashes of the current debacle.
