EnvironMentors:

DC Chapter

Initiated in Washington, DC in 1992, EnvironMentors has matched nearly 2,000 DC public high school students with environmental professionals. 98% of our students have graduated from high school, compared to the average DC graduation rate of 43%, and 95% have gone on to college, compared to the DC college acceptance rate of 12.4%. Fitting into the National Council for Science and the Environment's educational strategic overview, EnvironMentors supports students in college readiness and career preparation in environmental and natural resources fields.

Our students hail from three Washington, DC public high schools, Dunbar SHS, School Without Walls SHS, and Wilson SHS. These students come from all over Washington, DC, from every ethnic, racial, and socio-economic background. This allows us to have a rich and diverse student body to explore the natural wonders of the District of Columbia.

Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School (TMA)

Located across the river in Anacastia, TMA is a law-based charter school. This is our first year working with TMA and we will be partnering with their Green Club. EnvironMentors will help the students re-enforce the Law theme of their high school and will add an experiemental component to their Schoolyard Greening Project.

School Without Walls (SWW)

EnvironMentors feels right at home at SWW, whose unique academic program prompts students to use the city as a classroom.  SWW affords students with opportunities to integrate classroom theory, along with the rich resources that the Washington metropolitan area has to offer. EnvironMentors is based out of two Ecology classes where students are integrating their classroom studies into their projects.

Wilson Senior High School

Situated in Northwest DC, near American University's campus, Wilson SHS has opened its door to EnvironMentors. Our Wilson students are all on the Environmental Track in the Math, Science and Engineering Academy. This allows EnvironMentors students to reinforce their studies in previous environmental science courses.

Cardoza Senior High School

Cardoza Senior High School is situated in Columbia Heights, overlooking the city. Cardoza is working with EnvironMentors to get their students ready for the city-wide DC Intel Science Fair. We are excited to re-kindle the relationship between EnvironMentors and Cardoza and look forward to a great year!
