NEWS: EdGCM software download logistics

 Hi everyone,

I think Mark and I may have inadvertently caused some confusion about how to get the EdGCM software and then use your license key, so I'd like to try to clarify things.

- The EdGCM software installer is available for download from the EdGCM web site (http://edgcm.columbia.edu/download-edgcm/). To streamline the process a little, here are the direct links to the downloads, which we normally distribute only via email. (If you decide to have your students download the software for themselves, please send them to the web site rather than giving them the direct links below - we have no other way at present of tracking downloads.) You MUST cut and paste the URL that's shown into your browser's address bar, and then delete the space before 'exe' or 'dmg' before you hit the return key to start the download. Sorry about that, but email spam filters tend to strip the link entirely if we don't break the link.

Note that the installer is for the software only; model output is not included (otherwise the download would be huge). This way also you can run EdGCM and store output for only those simulations of immediate interest to you.

- Once you have installed the EdGCM software and start it for the first time, you'll see a registration window pop up. In this window, type the license key I sent you, and then click on the "Enter" button to the lower left. Your copy of EdGCM is now fully validated and licensed, free of charge to you as a workshop participant.

- Since you have already filled out the registration form on our website (indeed, that's how we knew you wanted a license key), there's no need for you to register a second time once the software is installed. Also, there is no need for you to go to the EdGCM online store (the link in your registration confirmation email) - you'd only need to go there if you wanted to purchase additional copies for your classroom and pay via credit card.

If anyone has any further questions about downloading the software, license keys, etc., please feel free to drop me a line.

Cheers,
Linda
